Asian Athletics’ and Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates’ full commitment to Safeguarding
Asian Athletics (AA), the Organizer and Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA), the Local Organization Committee of the Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026 are both fully committed to safeguarding everyone involved in these Championships as well as all those who participate in the sport of Athletics in Asia and Hong Kong from abuse, harassment and exploitation.
We firmly believe that all of us who participate in athletics should be protected and feel that we are protected, should be treated with dignity and respect and to be free from discrimination.
This is not only a “task” for those involved in the administration of the sport but that EVERYONE involved in athletics can and should contribute to making and creating a safe and welcoming environment for EVERYONE to enjoy this sport.
So, whether you are an athlete, a coach, an official, a parent of an athlete, a volunteer or even a spectator, you can have a role to play in Safeguarding in athletics and be an “ambassador” for Safeguarding to raise awareness of the subject across the sport and in these Championships.
Familiarize yourself with issues on Safeguarding and Safeguarding Officer
If you are not already familiar with Safeguarding in our sport, there are numerous links on the internet where you can go to and read. World Athletics (WA), AA and HKAAA all have their Safeguarding Policy and Rules published on their respective web-sites. WA also provides free online courses on related topics. For details, please visit the respective websites
For these Championships, a Safeguarding Officer has been appointed to deal with and receive report on all concerns and matters on Safeguarding. Furthermore, you can also contact us if you have any general enquiries on this subject or wish to know more.
You can be an ambassador for Safeguarding
In order to raise the awareness of safeguarding in our sport, we invite you to be a “Safeguarding Ambassador” in these Championships and thereafter.
As such an ambassador, you should be fully aware of your rights on Safeguarding, act to protect yourself and others (for example your teammates) from and to eliminate abuse, harassment and exploitations, be ready to raise a concern to the Safeguarding Officer and at all times uphold the principle that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity.
During the Championships, there will be booth games related to safeguarding policies. If participating athletes can answer correctly all the 5 questions on Safeguarding that have been randomly selected for you, you will be rewarded with a limited edition Asian Athletics U20 Championships Safeguarding Pin which you can proudly collect and wear as appropriate.
